Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo plays up Marko Marin potential
Roberto Di Matteo has played up the potential of new Chelsea signing Marko Marin after the Londoners confirmed a deal had been reached with Werder Bremen to bring the Germany international to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
The 23-year-old winger said earlier this week that he hopes interim boss Di Matteo is handed the job on a permanent basis, and the Italian coach says he has high hopes for the versatile forward.
“He’s a German international, he’s a skilful player and is very talented,” said Di Matteo ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Newcastle United on Wednesday. “He will certainly add some different qualities to this team. He’s been signed for next season.
“I think he can play in a few different roles. He’s an attacking player with creativity but I think it also depends on the way the team will play.”
Marin, who will join the Blues in the summer, believes he is perfectly suited to Chelsea’s style of play.
“I had good talks with Di Matteo and I hope he stays,” said Marin. “Chelsea’s play is based a lot on wide men. It fits perfectly for me, otherwise I would not have sought this move.”

The young striker has had a good season for his local team and scored 12 goals, his all round play is improving and he’s a real contender for Roy Hodgson’s squad.
The 21 year old has represented England at every level from U19 upwards and although there was talk of him being eligible for Ghana, the Longsight born striker always wanted to play in big tournaments for England. He’s already got four caps and is hopeful he’ll be able to represent his country this summer.
In an interview with Four Four Two, he’s asked if he thinks he can replace team mate Wayne Rooney for the first two games of Euro 2012 “Can I replace him? I hope so. I like to think I’m a flexible striker who can adapt to different formations. I’d be lying if I said I prefer to be up top alone.
“Like most strikers I prefer to have a partner up there. But just to be on the pitch is the main thing and I’ll do a job – any job – if I’m asked.”
With a tournament coming up, the penalties question is raised by the football magazine and Welbeck isn’t scared of the responsibility “I score goals so yeah, my hand will go up, definitely.”
Hopefully he doesn’t regret saying tha
