Athletic left Gelsenkirchen with the joy of having left the knockout quarter-finals of the Champions League against Schalke sentencing hearing. The 2-4 harvested by Bielsa is a great result for the ‘Lions’ now face the difficult mission to visit the FC Barcelona at Camp Nou.
After leaving the Veltins Arena, Athletic directamenet landed in Barcelona at five in the morning and went to the hotel to rest.Specifically, the Rest is one of the biggest headaches for Marcelo Bielsa since in less than 48 hours must jump to the Camp Nou to face a full Barca fight for the League.
Given this situation and, after playing a demanding European meeting, Bielsa might choose to play his starting lineup during his visit to Camp Nou. The legs of the ‘Lions’ need rest and Argentine coach could rotate against FC Barcelona. Players like Javi Martinez, De Marcos or even the Llorente, that support the backbone of this Athletic, may have rest in the face of not having shocks on the return of European party in San Mames.

Arsenal will win trophies in coming seasons: Gervinho

Arsenal will win trophies in coming seasons: Gervinho

Arsenal striker Gervinho claims the foundations are in place for the club to win trophies in coming seasons as they attempt to pile on the misery for struggling Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
Arsenal have gone on a winning streak of seven games, which has seen them overtake Tottenham and move into third spot in the Premier League.
While there is no prospect of ending their seven-year wait for a trophy this year — they are 15 points behind leaders Manchester United with eight games to play — their hopes of a Champions League spot are firmly in their own hands.
The buoyant mood at the Emirates Stadium is in stark contrast to that at QPR, who are fighting to avoid immediate relegation from the Premier League.
Ahead of Saturday’s trip across London, Gervinho pointed to the youthful nature of the Arsenal squad and tipped them to blossom in the near future.
“We can still win lots of trophies and we can do great things in the future,” the Ivory Coast international said. “We have a bright future because this is a good club.
“We are all still young, we have got some good players here, a good group. We have been through a lot of difficult times this season, lots of people have wavered in their belief of us.
“They have said this and they have said that, but we have returned to form and now we are going to try to finish the season well.”
Gervinho pointed to the form of striker Robin van Persie for Arsenal’s resurgence after a shaky start to the Premier League campaign.
Van Persie has scored 33 goals this season, including 25 in the Premier League and Gervinho added: “The standout player for me this year has been Robin.
“You can see his class with his finishing, how he leads the group, and with his experience.
“He is a player who has grown in to the role of captain and is the sort of player you need during the hard times.”
Meanwhile at Loftus Road, things are looking bleak. QPR are a point shy of safety with an extremely difficult run-in to come.
And star striker Djibril Cisse is banned for the next four games following his sending-off last Saturday at Sunderland – his second dismissal since signing for the club in January.
QPR chief executive Philip Beard made an embarrassing slip of the tongue while speaking at the Soccerex European Forum in Manchester on Thursday by stating “when we go down” before hastily correcting himself to say “if”.
But with games against Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City to come as well as a trip to Swansea, where Arsenal and City both lost, Beard’s mistake was understandable.
And Joey Barton, the QPR captain, spelled their plight out in no uncertain terms when he claimed the players are playing for their livelihoods.
“We’re as desperate for the points as they are – for totally different reasons obviously,” Barton said.
“But there are livelihoods on the line here. People’s careers are on the line. I’m not sure that’s the case at Arsenal, to be honest.
“They’ll want to win the game because they’re professionals and they’ll want to finish in the Champions League places, which is a minimum requirement for them.
“But there are lads here whose careers are on the line – and we have to realise that. This is more than a game of football now. The next eight games govern our futures.
“All the lads need to realise that. If we don’t, we’ll be punished for it.”

Desailly: Chelsea should appoint Di Matteo as permanent manager

Desailly: Chelsea should appoint Di Matteo as permanent manager

Roberto Di Matteo
Various other candidates have been put to Abramovich by leading agents since the dismissal of Villas-Boas earlier this month, but his former No.2 is regarded in some quarters as a front-runner.
“Mr Abramovich will do whatever he wants but I would really love to see Di Matteo keep the post,” said Desailly in an interview with Goal.com. “We are already hearing other coaches to come. Big names. Small names. Young. Old. But maybe the secret is to keep Di Matteo. Direct him on the mission and the vision the club have and see what is going to happen.
“I really think that they should give him a chance and I hope he [Abramovich] will keep Di Matteo. As the manager, yes. You just have to cover yourself a bit in the future in case you want to get rid of him. You need to fit somebody else into the club on standby in case in a year or two years’ time you decide to sack Di Matteo.”
Chelsea face Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-final next month, are one step away from the Champions League semi-finals and are still in the running to finish fourth in the league.
And Desailly believes the club are benefitting from an improved relationship between the senior players and the manager following the discord towards the end of Villas-Boas’ reign.
Speaking after Chelsea defeated Benfica 1-0 on Tuesday, the former World Cup and European Championships winner said: “You can see the commitment of [Didier] Drogba, [Frank] Lampard and John Terry. It is because of Di Matteo.
“It is because Di Matteo has a clear message to them. England is a country where you give a chance to people. Di Matteo is today in a moment where you should be able to give him the chance.
“What is happening on the field, apart from the game against Tottenham, which was not a very high level game, the Napoli and Benfica games have shown that there is a spirit and something special.”
The former France international believes that the team are suffering as a result of the club’s constant managerial turnover.
“I’ve been a player and after a while the one that comes, you know he will not last,” he explained. “You are not really focused. You do not open up to allow him to deliver his message.
“Di Matteo was already inside. If he gets the job, his message has already been spread. You have seen the commitment of the players. They have not given up. They have maybe not won or been brilliant on the pitch but at least we have seen something.”
Nevertheless, Desailly believes that Villas-Boas will go on to be a success elsewhere.
He added: “With a bit of time, maybe it would have worked. He can develop his skills at another place and I’m sure he will succeed. Specifically for Chelsea it did not work.
“But we are concerned about Chelsea and I really think that the chance should be given to Roberto Di Matteo.”
